Primer: Giorgio Armani Primer.
It smooth the skin surface, create great canvas for make up and allow make up to stay all night!

Because I am doing a strong smoky eye and I want Lea's face to be flawless, I start with the eyes this time.
So if any eyeshadow residues would to fall on her face, I can easily wipe it before applying concealer and foundation.

Eyes:
Lancôme Liner Design #trendy Grey.. I use this as a base to create a grip for eyeshadow and depth as well. It comes in a lot of fun colors and can be applied as a liner or as a base like I did...

I use a flat brush (MAC #249) and apply the cream base liner on her all eyelid, up to her crease.
Then I start smoking up the eyes with Lancôme Color Design 5 Pan Palette #Gris Fatale.

I start by covering the eye lead (over my grey base) with color #4 (which is the pinky/grey) and the same flat brush. By doing so, that color sets the cream base and gives depth to the color.

To start creating a smoky eyes, I use color #2 (dark grey) with a blending/crease brush.
They come in all sizes! Depending the eyes you are working on..
I like to use #5 for blending my dark color and I also work with #3 for an overall less detailed blending! ;-)

Curl the lashes and 2 coats of Lancôme Hypnose Drama #Excessive Black

Once the eyes are done, I just make sure the skin is clean, specifically under the eyes, Put a little eye cream then apply concealer. Lancôme Effacernes#medium buff
It lifts any signs of fatigue or stress and stay put all night. ;-)

Foundation: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation #6..
As usual, one of my favorite product, Applied with a wet beauty blender.

Powder: Shu Uemura Face PowderMatt #translucent.
Just on the Tzonewith a powder puff...

Bronzer: YSL Terre Saharienne #golden sand mixed with Kevyn Aucoin contour powder.
I mix them because the KA is matt and yellow base, which I prefer for contour but I need a little warmth in there so that is where the YSL comes to it....
I start with the KA with an angular blusher brush (small one!) in the crease of the cheeks to create depth then I take the bronzer up to the apple of the cheeks...Temple and forehead.

Lips:
I wanted to keep them nude and simple!
We even got best nude lip in Instyle.com!!

Lea always looks fantastic on the red carpet and it was so great that all the fans and bloggers felt the same.
AND Lets not forget that Lea won! CONGRATULATION!!

For Lea's look, we wanted to keep it fresh and fun.
A pink lip is a modern twist of the classic red lip and I feel its beautiful when the rest of the face is natural..

I applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Foundation #6 with a wet beauty blender.
The wet blender allows for a dewey finish.
I used YSL Poudre Compact Eclat powder the T zone straight away, so the powder has time to sink in by the time I am done with the make up.

Moving on to the eyes, I wanted for Lea's eyes to be natural but still defined.

Firstly, I run LANCOME crayon Khol #Brun really near her lashes, this helps defining the lash line. I use the same shade on the bottom for a slight definition on her bottom lash line

Michelle Phan's new palette for LANCOME is a versatile palette, yu can create a day make up with the 3 lightest colors then take you make up to a more dramatic look with the 2 darker colors.

For Lea's look, I only use the 3 light colors.

I start with the pink shade, which I applied as a base all over to open up the eye.

To start creating depth and warmth, I then use the brown color in the crease of the eyes, the outer corner of the eyes and I also use it to smudge the khol liner I applied earlier on top and bottom lash line.

Make sure everything is blended and no harsh line from the khol can be seen.

I finish the look with applying the silver shimmery eyeshadow on the inner corner of her eyes, to make her eyes looking bright and fun.

Curl lashes..Always...

Apply LANCOME Hypnose Mascara #Excessive Black. The S shape brush allows me to go really near her very long lashes and gives amazing volume.

We wanted to keep the face young and fresh, so i opted for a gel blusher, it always does the trick, it is water based and keep the look glowing. I used YSLVoile De Blush #Carmin Veil, which is a great coral peach color, I apply it just on the apple of her cheeks.
I love the little selection they have, I double some of the colors on my lips as well...;-)

The lip color was the most important part of this look. So I made sure Lea's lips were moisturized throughout the make up session so when it is time to apply the lipstick, her lips are soft.

We look together through the amazing new LANCOME Lipstick collection Les Rouges In Love. The colors are all bright and fun and the consistency is creamy and moisturizing.

We settled for a mix of the colors #Roses In Love and #Violette Coquette, which was the perfect mix to make a pretty pink with a hint of mauve. It is a modern and fun color, totally appropriate with the rest of the make up and the gorgeous white Marchesa dress she wore tonight.

Olivia Wilde attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Olivia chopped her hair for a movie and this was the first time she walk the red carpet with the new do! I personally love it!
She wore an this amazing dress by Monique Lhuillier and we decided on a smoky eye to compliment it.

Tamara De Lempicka

Tamara De Lempicka is by far my favorite painter.
Tamara deLempicka (1898-1980) is perhaps the most famous painter of the art deco period.
She was born in Poland and moved to Russia where she lived until the Bolsheviks arrested her husband during the Russian Revolution. She secured his release and they fled to Paris. There she enrolled at the Academie de la Grand Chaumiere and studying privately.
She was quite a prolific artist (in part facilitated by her spare simple style) and was much sought after as a portrait artist.

Her painting are so powerful and sensual to me as well as her amazing use of colors.
I think those are fantanstic make up references..

Milla Jovovich/Hunger Magazine/Rankin

What a great photoshoot, Milla was amazing as usual.
Hair by my friend Jenny Cho and Styling by Ryan Hasting.
I used and credited NARS products as I think it fits perfectly with the vibe of the shoot, edgy and cool..

This look is about a graphic eye.
2 main products were used for this look.
I used NARS liquid Eyeliner Stylo #Nuits Blanches to create the thick line on top.I purposely ended it exactly where her eyes end. I wanted to create that wing with a shadow. A hard line would have make it really 60's.
Using one of my favorite brush: NARS small dome eyeshadow brush and NARS cream eyeshadow #zardoz. That cream eyeshadow is very intense, creamy and black! I just want a little bit on my brush so I can start defining the crease of the eye with back and forth movement. Still with the same amount of product on my brush. I extend my line pass her natural eye shape to create the wing effect. I also bring the first eyeliner upward to connect.
Still with the same brush, I create depth by darkening the outer corner.
I used same brush and cream shadow for bottom liner, straight line, its not a perfect line, it can be smudged..Just be careful to not having it too messy and have raccoon eyes.

Finally, I just dusted a little of translucent powder over it to set up the cream shadow but i also wanted to matte it down a bit.

No curling the lashes, just one nice coat of really black mascara, I didn't want her lashes to show.

NARS has those multiple uses products, that can be use as blushers, highlighters, contouring..The consistency is creamy and there is a slight shine to it.
To define Milla's cheekbones and to add a touch of color on her cheeks, I use "The Multiple" #Palm Beach, which a sheer bronzed color. I use a MAC face brush #188, which I LOVE for applying cream blusher.

When shooting black & white, I always like to play with texture, shine and matt..ect..

So to add richness to the make up, I used NARS highlighter#Copacabana on the top of her cheeks so it will catch the light! and it did...

This product is great on the body too, mixed with foundation for a glow, it just a really versatile highlighter.

For a really natural mouth, I used NARS Velvet Matt Lip pencil #Dolce Vita. Although it is matt, it still moisturize the lips and give a natural finish.

Dazed & Confused 20 years/20 covers by Rankin

When Rankin comes on this side of the pond, he pack things in!! busy busy..
Couple of month ago we collaborated on one of the cover for Dazed &Confused.
Dazed and Confused are celebrating its 20th Anniversary Issue by having 20 different covers, all shot by Rankin.
The front cover is featuring some of the magazine's icons with their choices of new talent for the back cover.
I shot the cover with the incredible Milla Jovovich and the back cover was Welsh actor Luke Evans.

Those guys are truly the sweetest peeps around..just lovely.

I was so excited to work with them for the first time couple of weeks ago for their first ever music video: "Crash your party".

We had a blast! It was a great collaboration, we played with make up and hair for Amy and I can't wait to see the final product!

We worked together again for the American Music Awards.

Karmin was awarded with a brand new award: New Media Award!

I love Amy's look and choice of bold colors for her outfit, so I wanted to compliment this but still keeping her fresh, flirty and beautiful!

So we opted for a purple glitter eyeliner for the boldness with a fresh face.

I use Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner #High Voltage, which is a dark purple. Those Covergirl pencils have a great soft texture and are really easy to use. They are great for smoky eyes as well.

I started by drawing the eyeliner shape I wanted on Amy's eyes. I wanted it quiet thick and ended with a wing. Make sure your pencil is nicely sharpen before starting. The fact that the pencil is soft makes it easy, if you make a little mistake, use the pointy Qtips with some make up remover to erase the mistake.

Try to erase with a steady and fast movement if you want to creat a sharp angle or line.

Once I was happy with my liner, I use NARS Matte Eyeshadow #Daphne, which is a really bright purple, to go over the liner.

By doing this, I am setting the soft pencil, so it wont move and I am adding brightness and depth to the liner.

To do this, I used a brush like NARS Angular Eye Shader.

I wet the brush lightly so when I pick up the shadow, it will be more like a cake liner than a powder eyeshadow. Allowing me to create sharper lines.

I basically follow my original line.

So now I have a nice bright eyeliner and I want to add GLITTER!!!

MAC has a great selection of small and big glitter. I think you can only buy those at the PRO stores, in LA its on Robertson and open to the public.

Because I need the glitter to stick, I apply a very thin layer of eyelash glue on my liner, then I press on the glitter with the same angular brush.

NOW..BECAREFUL because glitter get MEEEESSSY!! It will go all over the face and everywhere..

So, when I apply it, I tilt my client head backwards, like if she is looking up, then I take a tisuue, fold it in 2 and slide it under her eyes so hopefully..;-) the tissue will catch excess glitter.

I just followed my liner and pressed on the glitter.

If glitter falls and stick on the face..Use tape to get if off..very gently, pick up the glitter with the sticky tape.

Ask your client to shake her head so any remaining loose glitter can fall and you can pick them up.

Make sure the face is flawless and without glitter!!!!!

For final glamour, I used Illamasqua eyelashes. Cut my strip in 2 or 3, allow me to align them the way I want.

Olivia Wilde over the weekend

Olivia is such a stunning beauty, finding new ways to do her make up every time we work together is really an exciting part of my job. We collaborate on looks and working on that face is just a make up artist's dream...truly...
Over the weekend, Olivia attended two events. We did 2 very different looks.
What I like is that although we change it up, she doesn't get lost to the hair/make up or wardrobe, her beauty and herself always shine through!

First event was the LACMA's Art + Film Gala.
She wore a gorgeous GUCCI red dress and we wanted to keep the GUCCI's vibe, which is generally strong eyes or a strong lips or sometimes both!

When you are working with an actress, no matter how beautiful she is, you have to keep in mind that she is representing herself and not a brand or image.
So even when you want to do a fashion inspired make up, always adapt it to your client personality.
The most important thing is that my client feel like herself, at ease and beautiful when she hits the red carpet.
So we decided to go for an eye on Olivia.
Olivia being one of the new REVLON'S face, I was also inspired by The Expressionists/ The Fall 2011 Collection by Gucci Westman.

Main products used for Olivia's look:
-REVLON Luxurious Color/Diamond Lust eyeshadow #Neptune Star, which is a highly shimmered midnight blue.
I used this color mainly on her eyelids, allowing the color to barely show through, making it interesting.
-REVLON Luxurious Color/Matt eyeshadow #Riviera Blue, which is a matt color. I used it to start darkening the outer corner of her eyes and to create depth.
-LANCÔME Color design eyeshadow #Vintage. which is a warm chocolate color.
You can see that I lightly used this color on the outer corner as well, blending it in with the dark blue but I kept it on the edge as I wanted the brown to show through.
-LANCÔME Doll Lashes Mascara
-NARS Larger than life Long Wear eyeliner #Via Venato

The second event was Olivia's movie "Butter" AFI premiere.
She wore a peachy sweet Louis Vuitton dress.
We took direct inspiration from the LV catwalk make up and hair as Olivia and her stylist thought it would just be perfect..
So did we!!

This look was about the glowing skin and the amazing eyelashes. A very soft 60's inspired make up.

Main products used to get this look:
I like mixing my foundation, just to get the right texture and color.
-Cle de Peau cream foundation #020 with Make Up For Ever HD #145 to give it warmth.
I use the beauty blender wet..to give it that dewiness...
-REVLON Photoready Translucent Finisher, which eliminate shine but still allows the skin to breath and show through.
-Laura Mercier stain pot #Peach Glaze, which is one of my fav product and it is the perfect peachy color
-NARS Lipgloss #Striptease to give a little shine
-REVLON Brow Fantasy #dark blonde, which is the perfect color for her eyebrows and there is a gel on the other end of it to keep those brows in place all day!
-I get some of my lashes from the Korean Galleria in downtown LA, the brand is called DARKNESS. They have so many models!!
I never put a full strip, I always cut my lashes in 3 or 4 pieces..easier to apply and more flexible to wear.

Favorite products of the month

So I am going to try to do a monthly favorite products...

It might be a little difficult, as I am a creature of habit and when a product work well for me, I tend to stay with it.

But, I will try to present at least 3 new products a month.

I have had the pleasure to working with this beautiful and funny lady! Sarah Paulson is just great all around!
She was on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson to promote her movie Martha Marcy May Marlene.
Watch the trailer!! I have seen the movie and it is really good!!
Sarah and Elizabeth Olsen are both phenomenal in it!

Olivia Wilde " In Time" Premiere

To keep with the Gold/Coppery metallic eye trend that we have seen on the runway for Fall 2011 on shows like:

Gucci

Balmain

Chloe

Burberry Prorsum

I decided to create a similar eye on Olivia for her "In Time" Premiere.
Her dress was black and simple although very sexy, so I wasn't limited by a color.
The coppery gold eye is perfect and very flattering for Olivia's eye color.

3 products were used for the eyes:

I started with NARS cream eyeshadow #El Dorado, which is a lovely shimmery golden bronze:

I applied it all over the lead and under eye but left brow bone clean. It is creamy so it blends easily, dont be scarred to smudge it on!

Cream shadows are great, easy to use and versatile BUT most of the products out there will crease. There is few non creasing cream eyeshadows but i find that you have to be working really quickly with it, doesn't blend as easy and it become dull fast.

So because I want to make sure that my make up stays on for the premiere and after, I then apply a gold powder eyeshadow on top of the cream one.

For this look, I used the LANCOME Color Design Palette#Golden Frenzy.

I patted the first color (the bright gold one) with a flat brush and covered most of the area where i previously applied the cream BUT I stopped before the crease of the eye..

So U can see the gold cream shimmering through pass the lid...

Finally, to create intensity and make the look smokier and sexier, I choose a bright but dark coppery eyeshadow from BOURJOIS #08.

I find those intense colors whilst make up shopping in Paris, FR.

They are truly amazing! The shades, the consistency..

There is many ways to create a smoky eyes but for this make up, I still wanted the golds to show through the copper color, so I mainly used the darker color by her lashes and outer corner top and bottom..

Then a good old blend with a clean blending brush so all the colors are connected and breathing together!!!

For Olivia's flawless skin, I used her favorite, REVLON PhotoReady foundation, which create a flawless finish and i lightly used REVLON PhotoReady Translucent Finisher on her T zone.

Lea Michele Emmy's 2011

For this year Emmy, Lea is wearing a red Marchesa dress that feels like modern version of a classic silhouette.
it's very different for her and I didn't want to compete with the dress so we decided on a simple, beautiful, classic make up.. Emphasizing on her brown eyes and really long eyelashes..We just wanted her to look young, cool and modern.

FACE:
I prepared her skin with LANCOME visionnaire, which immediately tighten up the skin and pores and is a great base for make up.

I used Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, which has a great luminosity to it and the colors spectrum is great.
Cle de Peau concealer.
Powder: LANCOME Absolue Powder, which gives a flawless finish without looking powdery.

EYES:
Lea has the most beautiful and naturally long lashes I have ever seen..
So I just wanted to accentuate her eyes by defining them with a dark burgundy colors that enhance her big browns eyes..
My color palette was peachy, maroon burgundy..
LANCOME has those great eyeshadows palettes with 5 very well put together colors.
For Lea's eyes I choose Color Design in #kissed By Gold and LANCOME Artliner in #aubergine.

I started by sweeping the light coral color form that palette all over the lid and the lighter color under her brow bones. I then define the rim of her eyes with the liner then feathering it with the darker. Keeping it near the top and bottom lashes..
Now, I am asked a lot about Lea's lashes.. They are phenomenal..
Sometimes we do use fake ones to accentuate a specific look but today we didn't.
I curled her lashes and used the new LANCOME Hypnose doll lashes mascara... The brush is really good and shape like a pear so you have a slim and a fatter end allowing me to go really near the lashes line and it's really black, which not all mascara are.
2 coats and her lashes are TO DIE FOR..

I always like a peachy color on the apple of the cheeks to keep it fresh and Yves St Laurent Blush Radiance #1 is the perfect color...

Just swipe it gently in a circular motion on the apple of the cheeks then lightly reapply the powder so it all blends in.
To finalize the look, I pushed the color of LANCOME lipstick in #coquette onto her lips with my ring finger..Purposely not defining it with a lip pencil..
It looks more natural.

I have been lucky enough to do the world press with the gorgeous Olivia Wilde for 2 of her movies, The Change Up and Cowboys and Aliens.
We have been pulling some great looks!
Below are some of the looks we have been doing...with the main products used to achieve the look!

The dress was this amazing Dolce & Gabbana black lace, really beautiful with a hint of western inspiration..
Loved it!
I went for a dark smoky eye to rock'n'roll the dress..
You can some of the press releases below with products used!
The secret to that look is the blending. Once you created the shape of the eyes that you want with a black kohl pencil, the trick is to use a small blending brush like the MAC below and smudge the shadow with it.
Use a black powder eyeshadow for a very dramatic look like on Olivia or you can use a lighter shadow for a less dramatic effect.

BTW: The worldwide premiere of the movie was at Comicon in front of thousands of people, a mix of fans and people that worked on the movie.
The reactions were great and it was such an honor to be there for that screening.

The movie screened at The Piazza Grande, outdoor in Lucarno, during the film festival.
The scenery was breathtaking and the audience amazing..
That GUCCI dress was fantastic on her and so perfect for the festival.
I decided on a really simple and natural make up to complement the dress.

Main products used are MAC Khol in Teddy, which is a great, soft pencil, allowing you to blend easily.

One of my favorite blusher EVER, Kevyn Aucoin Blusher in Dolline, which is the perfect peach blusher..just applied on the apple of the cheeks for that freshness..
The skin is not over powder to keep it dewy and glowing...

OK! So WOW!!
I have to say this is one of my favorite look and I think it might be Olivia's too.
The dress was perfect for Berlin..
David had this vision with an unconventional ponytail and it really put the final touches to that outfit!
To start with, both Olivia and I wanted to go for a dark, smoky eyes but after discussing it, we thought we already did it at Comicon so I did a really thick black eyeliner line, with a nod to the 60's.
The main product is def the eyeliner!

I like to start with drawing the line with a black Khol pencil, for that specific look, I draw a really thick line.

To make sure you have the right and the most flattering shape, finish the line with your client's eyes open, looking straight.
Because most likely, she will take a picture with her eyes open! :-)
Try to keep the line sharp this time because we won't blend it in.
Then, once happy with the line, I go over it with a liner to really make the line final.

A must tool for that look is your pointy Qtips!
Have it ready by your side with a make up remover, so if you do a little mistake, you can erase it straight away.
And its really efficient when you want to sharpen that line too.

As far as beauty, this is one of my favorite, she just look flawless.
The picture below, really take my breath away...
The funny thing is that we were actually quiet rushed and I did that make up in like 20minutes!

For Olivia's skin, I always mix 2 foundations:
Cle de Peau Cream foundation and Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation..It gives me the perfect coverage..

The lipstick is that perfect nude color, it is CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Insouciance..
The texture is so lovely..not too glossy...

I really love this look on her, yes, I know, I love all her looks!
But she truly looks like a movie star..
Beautiful skin, peachy and a perfect red lips!

The main feature for this look is obviously the lips.
When I do am strong lip, I want to make sure that it will stay on all day.
So I always apply concealer on the lip first the lightly powder them..IT just give a neutral and good base.
I draw the lip with the lipliner the closet color of the lipstick.
I like to start from the bow of the lip outward then corner of the lips inward...blending both lines..
Same for the bottom lip..start at the middle then corner.
I fill the all lips with the pencil..
A little trick is that I like to keep my pencil NOT too sharpened..it is easier that way to draw a nice line..
I then apply the lipstick..
For the London premiere I used REVLON Matt Lipstick in Real RED. The perfect red...

Finally, when I am happy with my lines, I use a little eyeliner brush with translucent powder and just go over the outside of lips, to create a sharp finished lip shape.

So I went to a make up artist presentation for Jouer Cosmetics.

I was already familiar with it but it was good to get re-introduce to it.

Firstly, the packaging is just genius, it really is..its like lego land!

All the products, except a couple are attachable in many different ways.

It is great for a professional make up artist, because it can be compact and it looks really nice but it is also great for the "everyday" women as she can put together whatever she needs that day or night, compact it and on her way!

I was more attracted to their colors, like the blushers and the lip stains, which are great. The pigment is strong and the texture soft

I wasn't that keen on their compact foundation or concealers. Personally,I find them a little too greasy and the colors a little too redish, I like my foundations and concealers yellow base.

but overall, a great brand!

You can only find them at Henri Bendel in NY or online for now.

The Vanity Fair Oscar Party is always more relax and fun that the event itself.

Lea had a stunning blue dress and although I am normally not a matchy matchy person, I really want it to do a dark blue smoky, smudgy dark blue eyes.

I actually really like that look on her...

The lipgloss is Lancôme in Inferno and the eye pencil is the best on the market MAC khol in smolder!

I have said it before and I will say it again Lea and I have both come a long way.

Her red carpet looks are getting more and more sophisticated and beautiful.

Those event were the SAG'S, Grammy's, Vanity Fair Party.

For the SAG'S, I really wanted a smoky eyes, which is funny because I actually did a purple smoky eyes,,BUT somehow it got totally washed out with the flashes!

When she left the hotel, I remember thinking, maybe i did it too strong, the press might have a field with me..

Part 2! Looking online and she looks like she has no make up!

The palette I use was a Lancôme palette called Mauve Cherie.

I never worked with that palette before and wasn't sure how intense i should have applied it...Now I know..

I did love the way it turned out, even though it wasn't what I had plan.

The vibe between Mark Townsend, Estee Stanley and me was to modernize the 70's, think Studio 54 but Hollywood.

I think we got it..;-)

The Grammy's are supposed to be FUN! and I wanted a lip!

The Runway show for SS 2011 were filled with bold lips so I wanted to follow that trend.

To be honest, I have never read Cosmo and I always thought their cover was too commercial for me BUT I have to say this one is stunning.

We shot in NY, it was freezing!

The photographer was the lovely and talented Marc Hom and the hairdresser Renato Campora, who is equally sweet and very talented!

The hair that he created was so sexy and cool yet beautifully executed..

All and all a lovely day!

Lea Michele Golden Globes 2011

HAAAA...Golden Globes time again!
Lea picked up an Oscar De La Renta pink dress, its lovely but its pink! We had to think carefully what we wanted to do with make up..
I didn't want a pink lips nor smoky eyes..
So after a little pow wow, we went for an overall luminous look..and a little pop of color on the lips!

Mark Towsend did this beautiful loose chignon! He took this picture just beforeLea eft the hotel..

Lea was in a great mood as you can tell with those pictures! she has the biggest smile!!

The dress was quiet constructed so the make up and hair had to be young, fresh and playful but obviously still chic as it is the Golden Globes!

I prepped Lea's skin with Lancome Bienfait Multi-Vital Glow to keep the skin fresh and hydrated.
I applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation with a wet sponge to keep that dewey finish.
LANCOME Effacernes concealer in Light Bisque, this is the best concealer on the market, it goes on really smoothly and stay put all night.

I wanted to create some definition on the eyes without making it a smoky eyes.
So LANCOME 5 Ombres Palette in Craze Taupe was perfect for that..
I use #1 All over the eyes, from the lid to the brow bone, it sets as a beautiful highlighter. It is gorgeous under the brow bones as it catch the light.
#2 was applied just on the lid with a flat brush and #3 use in the crease, blending in with the other to colors to create depth.
I curl Lea's very long lashes, then applied 2 coats of LANCOME Hypnose mascara in Black to give the lashes a real fulness.
Once the Mascara is dry, with an angular brush I press on #5 reallynear the lashes.

Lancome Tropiques Minerale in Natural Sunkiss was brushed on lightly all over the facewith more definition on cheekbones, with the same brush strokes and dab LANCOME Blush Subtil Sheer in Amourose on the apple of the cheeks for that healthy glow.

To finishthe look I dabbed LANCOME Exotic Orchid Lipstick on Lea's lips, very natural, like a stain, no lip pencil, then to give it that pop of color I finish it with LANCOME Chromed PinkLacquer.

YES!! It was a darker lips than it looks on some of the pics...Maybe Lea's just didn't reapply as much as she should have ! ha!

At the OX party, you can see the lips better, it was like a deep rasberry stain/gloss..

I did a face chart but once I scanned it, the colors wont through to waht i did on paper...;-(

But here it is anyway!

So I just worked with the CUTE CUTE Emily Browning for the Sucker Punch press...

Ok, this girl is beyond adorable, smart and that face is a dream for a make up artist!!

For the Golden Globes W party, I really wanted to bring out Emily's overall doll like features and porcelain skin.

I use LANCOME Color Design Palette 5 Ombres in #Coral Crush.

The shimmery colors makes it easy to do a light smoky eyes where all the colors merge together to create a soft but sexy eye.

I use #1 all over the lid with a flat brush then #3 on the outer corner of the crease, blending softly inwards with a crease brush. With an angular brush, I apply a liner near the lash line with color #5. Then to soften the line, #3 is blended with that liner and feathered..so you get a liner for definition but it is a soft one.

Same technique for the underneath.. But just apply the color at the outer corner and then drag the color in..so most of the darkness is on the outside of the eye, to create depth.

I deposit a little bit more of color #! that I use as a highlighter on the inner corner of the eye, to open up and brighten the look!

Curl the Lashes and one coat of LANCOME definicils in black, top and bottom, concentrating on the base of the lashes (for the top).

LANCOME Blush Subtile was applied on the apple of the cheek for a healthy glow.

LANCOME L'Absolu Rouge Lipstick # Absolute Rouge put the final touch to the look!

I AM SUPER EXCITED!!

I have been confirmed to work with the gorgeous Emily Browning next week..The movie looks epic!

300 was one of my favorite movie so how great that I get to work with the lead of Zack Snuder new movie!

And I love the fact that Emily chopped all her hair off in a Mia Farrow's Rosemary's baby cut.

I met Olivia few month ago on a Vanity Fair shoot with photographer Norman Jean Roy
Sometimes things just click straight away and although it was the first time we all worked together, it turned out amazing..
As u can see...
The stylist Natasha Royt showed us an old cover of French Vogue with Vanessa Paradis as a make up reference.

So we decided to classic Hollywood, a red lip and a thin black eyeliner.

Olivia is a modern woman, like Vanessa, so they can wear the look and make it contemporary.

I was interview by In Style magazine about the event, those where the Q&A:

-When wearing cobalt blue clothes or accessories, what color makeup is most complimentary?

Orange and Red are the most complimentary
-Is there an unusual makeup shade that goes well with cobalt blueclothes?

Orange is kind of an unusual color, not many women knows how to wear it. Yellow/Gold is as well an unusual color but very complimentary to cobalt blue. It doesn't have to be gold only. You can incorporate gold into a dark brown smoky eyes.

-When wearing bold clothes, is it okay to wear blue eyeshadow or do you not recommend that?
I would, personally, always stay away from blue eyeshadow. Leave it on the runway or for fashion shoot. Unless we are talking about a dark blue that can maybe be blend into another color for a smoky eye or a bit of an eye definition. There are some great khol pencils on the market that you can use in various shades of dark blue if u want a pop of blue on your eyes.

If u wear bold clothes, I would keep the make up pretty simple. I wouldn't match outfit to eyeshadow.Your look will be more modern that way.
Bold clothe and blue eyeshadow could look dated so, no, i wouldn't recommend.
-Did Olivia give any direction to her makeup look for the event?
It is always a team work. She showed us what she was going to wear that evening and the glam team talk about it, including Olivia. But on that particular evening we all agreed a red lips was the way togo. That blue color dress screamed for a red lip!

-It looks like her lipstick is bright pink--what lipstick (brand and shade did you use)? What inspired you to choose this shade (it's gorgeous!)?
It is actually a red lipstick, maybe it read pink because we choose a red that had blueundertone vs orange undertone.

I wanted the shade to be deep, classic and wintery. I always feel that a red with blue undertone is more mature and sophisticated than an orange base red, which I feel is more summery and light.

My Toronto Girls!!

I just came back from 9 days in Toronto. I was working at the Toronto Film Festival.
I was lucky to work with some beauties!!

I started with the young Emma Roberts, she was there promoting her new movie "It's kind of a funny story".

-Emma's skin is FLAWLESS..so I apply Kho Gen Do moisturizing foundation, which is a brand from Japan that I just discovered at Barney's. Its light and perfect for her skin.
I rimmed her eyes with my favorites pencils in the world!
The Sue Devitt eye intensifier pencil...they truly are the best, the colors are great and the consistency perfect for blending..its real easy! I use Kenya on Emma, which is a brown with some gold in it..greeeeeat color!
On her cheeks are my favorite blush of the moment, NARS in douceur. Not too peachy or pinky..just a very pretty color!
I wanted her lips matt cos i think gloss would have make it too pretty/pretty...
I used the new pure matt lipstick from NARS, they are matt but somehow a bit moisturizing...would recommend a lip balm before anyway but they are the best matt lipstick on the market now...
The color is Tashkent...

Few days after, Rosamund Pike arrived in Toronto to promote 2 movies, Barnet's version and Made in Dagenham.
I have worked with Rosamund few years back and she is a really cool lady and a beauty as well...

For that look, we kept it really natural, her dress was stunning that I didn't want to take anything away from it..
I use Giorgio Armani foundation lasting silk, which gives a really beautiful satin finish, their colors are good and yellow base and compliment most skins..
Kevyn Aucoin blusher in Dolline, which is a really soft peach that really tend to suit everyone as far as I am concerned! ;-)
With almond shaped eyes like Rosamund, and mine actually, I apply individuals lashes in the middle of the eyes, to open them up.
A little balm on her lips to keep her natural lip color..

For this second look, we wanted to pick up on that dark red clutch and shoes. So we got all my reds out and sampled them on my hand and decided! the nearest form the color was NARS new pure matt lipstick in Volga.
On the eyes..yes yes..first off I use the Sue Devitt pencil..but then I intensified it with shadows..
Those pencils are a great base, the powder shadow will stick to it..
NARS really make good duo shadow..they are generally well match colors.

On my last day with Rosamund, I got a call to help out an actress that arrived in Toronto. The make up artist they had booked didn't make it to. So I packed and zoomed to the rescue!
The cool...cooool Judy Greer was waiting to be beautify!
Ha! I love her!
My hubby came with me, cos it was an unexpected thing and he was waiting for me to be done working..so he tagged along..
And honestly, we had a blast, Judy is so funny..

Judy has a beautiful skin, absolutely no blemishes! I use the Giorgio Armani foundation and powder lightly with the Kho Gen Do powder.. It has a slight slight shimmer...it's very flattering..
NARS blush in douceur was perfect for her.
After seeing her dress, I thought I should pick up that violet color on the eyes and it will compliment her yes color and intensify the blue color.
I drew a liner and end it with a little wing! I use Sue Devitt pencil in black window and then pressed on NARS single eyeshadow in Daphne, a deep violet eyeshadow.
I pressed the shadow on then feathered it to blend it with the pencil.
On her lips we used once again..NARS matt...:-) in Tonkin, which is a natural with a hint of pink...
Et voilà!! How glowy and beautiful does she look??

My last but not least....
The sexy Malin Akerman, in Toronto to promote The bang bang club.
Malin is a friend of a good friend of mine and we have crossed path before.
It was such a blast working with her...
We did her hair together and had a laugh or two doing it!!!

how absolutely stunning is she looking???

Same boring old thing...Malin has a great skin!! With freckles and those are so cute..
So very light foundation and powder! With a bronzer to sculpt her cheek bones, CHANEL bronze universal is amazing for that, it's one of a kind cream/mousse bronzer with a real nice color that is not orange based! Ha!
We agreed that the eyes should be smoky/modern and sexy.
That dress was stunning, it looked like it was wet..the color went from a bright red to a dark dark aubergine.
So aubergine colored smoky eyes it was!
And then we rimmed the inside of her eyes with a black kohl to give that extra va va voom...
A lot of single lashes and 2 coats of mascara sealed the deal!

Although I was blessed to work with such lovely ladies, I am happy to be home!

Lea Michele EMMY look

SOOOOO!!! How gorgeous did Lea look yesterday???
Here is the rundown of the what what's and how how's..

Lea' s gown is classic Oscar de Renta in navy blue.
It is timeless, elegant, with the ruffles adding a playful, girly side to the dress..
So when we discussed hair and make up, we wanted to be a little bit adventurous, have fun with a color that would be a contrast to the classic dress.
My inspiration were the sirens of the 1960's. Lea beauty reminds me of a young Raquel Welch, cat eyes, great cheek bones and nude lips.
So with a nod to the 60's, we created a modern, flirty but still elegant look.

I prepared Lea's skin with NARS pro primer, it smooth the pores and the lines and create a perfect canvas for the foundation.

I used NARS sheer matt foundation and NARS duo concealer.

I lightly powder her face with the NARS sparkling loose powder to give it a dewy finish.

Lea has amazing cheek bones so I just defined them with NARS bronzing powder in casino

then with the same brush I applied NARS blush in douceur on the apple of the cheeks and blended both colors for continuity.
I highlighted her cheekbones with NARS in Nico

For the eyes, I went for the 60's wing cat eyes but in a deep sea blue. I didn't want it to look like a hard line and too retro so I smudged it on the upper lead of her eyes.
I prepared the eyes with NARS smudge proof eyeshadow base. It grips the shadow and make the look last all night.

I applied the lighter color from the NARS duo eyeshadow in Tzarine all over her eyes, from the crease to her brow bones.
I start drawing the liner and the wing with NARS Manon eye pencil, which is a true deep sea blue and I winged it at the end. I smudge the line with NARS china blue single powder eyeshadow, keeping in by her lash line.

Using now the darker color in NARS Tzarine, which is a grey, I feather the liner to her crease, basically creating a smoky eye above the liner.
To give a little fun to the look, NARS Soft eyeshadow pencil in Palladium was applied very lightly in the corner of her eye.

I curled her lashes and applied NARS larger than life mascara volumizing in black.

On her lips, we just want a simple matt color. NARS matt lipstick were perfect for that because they are matt but sill moisturizing.
I used NARS matt lipstick in Tashkent, which is the perfect nude!!

The result??????
A flawless look on the red carpet!!!

It's about getting inspired by everything that's around you.

It's about building a library of colors, texture, shapes, smells..and store it in your memory ( or iPad!!;-) because
everything is relevant to your make up and your growth as an artist.

I looove antique shopping, I have a small ( but very cute) house with limited place but I still spend hours in antique store.

This is my latest trip to an antique Mall..believe or not but it was in Ocean Beach...on my way to San Diego..
Ocean beach is a strange little place..but the antique stores are amazing...

Well, a lot of amazing things have been happening.

I have been working a lot on different projects. Some are can't talk about and some I can..;-)

The beauty of blogging, twittering and all it, is that we can communicate the information as it happens and that we can share what we do daily..the flip side of that coin is that now, more and more, when I work, we are ask to keep it confidential, which is understanding...A lot of things get leaked and it can ruin a magazine cover or album cover...ect..

Anyhoo, all that I can to tell you is that if I am mysterious is because I have to!!

I have be lucky enough to be introduced by a good friend and a very talented hairdresser, to an amazing director: Jonas Akerlund

His work is rock'n'roll, graphic, powerful and just plain amazing. check his site..

B Akerlund, his wife is a great costume designerand they often pair up.

Its been so cool to be able to be part of a team with who u can collaborate and do good work!!!

Will post the work we did once its out...;-)

I teamed up as well with a famous entertainer that made his directorial debut. It was a great experience and cant wait or the commercial to come out as well!

I have been missing in action.. and I am sorry. I have been working crazy hours and I am totally knackered!!!
A lot of amazing things have happened and I can't wait to blog about.

I am in NY and as always, stopped by top shop to see what they have cooking...
I remember the days in London where I used to shop in TS! The one in London is massive and there was always something cheap and cool to buy. Here in NY...not so much..i think its all overprced...
Anyhoo... To my surprise, finally...TOP SHOP make up!!! ;-)
I raced to it and start playing...;-)
and...its not bad at all....

The product are really like were the blushers, they had a peach, pink, deep mauve and a loud pink..they feel creamy but then dry as powder..

The color pigment is really nice..not too weak or strong..

It reminds me of a products i bought few weeks ago from a "pro" only shop, they called Three Custom Color Specialist, they were $28 a piece and to be honest...

TS are only $12..and i cant tell the difference!

There was a huuge color selection for nails...lovin it!

My 2 favs are below... the browny slanted one is very similar to the new Chanel nail polish: Particuliere, its the best color ever! its the new black!

So we shot the Doves commercial with Lea over 2 days at the Orpheum Theater.
I love downtown Los Angeles, it does have great buildings, some of them falling apart, some of them half way through restoration and some of them restored and gorgeous.
My friend Jessica's family actually own and manage the Orpheum amongst other buildings in downtown Los Angeles.
The Orpheum is one of my favorite building with The Eastern Colombia building..looove the blue and gold!!
We had a great time! Great team!

Marta, so sorry I havent been responding....
been too busy..;-)
So first things first: brushes..
MAC brushes are actually ok quality/price as long as u clean them properly..
Do u clean your brushes often? and if yes..how?
I prefer Nars/Laura Mercier/Shu Uemura which are the BEST brushes.
Those are few of the brushes I have in my kit..
I keep it quiet simple..for my kit anyway...

I like ALL Shu Uemura brushes but soooooo expensive!!
If your heart is set on the Shu then maybe buy a set of brushes, they are better value and it will generally have all the one u need..

As far as the beauty blenderwell...I like it a lot! I cant stop using it..
Yes, I will be careful with the product. I will probably deposit the foundation on my hand first then blend it with the BB.
Sure, I can see why one could think that it waste a lot of products and u know what, if u put the product on it then it might just do that...
but...I really like the finish it gives. I wet the BB so its moist so then when I applied my foundation it goes on very smoothly, without brush strokes or sponges lines....
and it is so soft on your client's skin...
it gives a dewy look and for me, I can use heavier foundations but still apply it naturally, still have the skin breathing underneath...
I truly like it...and use it..as u can see in Glamour with Lea! my hand with the BB in it!!

She is AMAZING...that face is truly a priviliege to work on..she is such a Chameleon!
It was a real chill, and short day somewhere in the valley..we shot in an old dinner, pretty cool.
The editor let me push it and I loved it.

Lea's Kid's choice Award look

For Lea's look, I wanted to keep her make up simple yet flawless and classic. It had to compliment her hair and dress without overpowering it.
Lea has amazing bone structure so once she decided to keep the hair off her face in a simple ponytail, coupled with her gorgeous pink dress, we went for a "modern day" ballerina look.
I didn't want a particular feature to stand out, but instead I created an overall balanced look to celebrate her youth and beauty.

For her face, I wanted her complexion to be flawless and bright so I started by applying COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Concealer under her eyes to make sure she looked wide awake followed by an overall base of Giorgio Armani Luminous Foundation. Then, I applied Make Up For Ever HD powder to set the look followed by a highlighter. On Lea's cheeks I started with COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Plush Peach to create a warm flush of color followed by Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder to futher accentuate her cheekbones.

On the eyes, I wanted something natural, but still bold enough for the red carpet so I applied COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Bronze Fire on the lid and crease and the white shade of COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke to the browbone and inner corner of the eye. Next, I added COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers in Cafe Au Lait to darken the crease for a little more drama, followed by COVERGIRL Perfect Blend Eyeliner in Black/Brown. To Lengthen and define Lea's gorgeous lashes I applied many coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Length Mascara in Black.

Since we decided to accentuate her eyes, I wanted to go more natural and just use a slight stain for her lips. I used Kevyn Aucoin Flesh Tone Lip Pencil followed by COVERGIRL Outlast Lipstain in Bit of Blossom.

Lea's sexy green smoky eyes..

So Lea went to the 18th Annual Elton John's AIDS foundation Oscar party.
We had such a great run over the awards seasons with different looks that I wanted to make sure that we end the seasons with something unexpected...;-)
I am not one to use colors much, I do prefer a brown or grey smoky eyes but after seeing the Oscar De La Renta dress she was going to wear and once we all agreed that her hair should be pulled back in a simple bun...I wanted to funky it up a bit..Obviously still keeping it beautiful and chic.
We went back and forth between green or purple.We decided on a minty green...BUT, I still wanted the eyes to be a smoky dark eyes so I mixed it with black and dark green..
Lea's company for the dinner, amongst other guests, was John Dempsey, President of MAC COSMETICS, so I wanted to use mostly MAC on Lea..the eyes being the focus.
MAC has a fantastic selection of eyeshadows, great, playfull colors and sooo many different textures.. I should know I work for them back in the days in London..
I actually worked in one if their busiest counter... Anyway.. Other story, another day..;-)
So, I started with the light minty color which is a cream. I like applying creams eyeshadow as a base because 1 the powder eyeshadow will grip to it and 2 u can be quiet playfull with colors/shimmer and have that shimmer coming through your shadow.
NOW....when U mix texture, be careful....if u apply a cream shadow, don't try to brush on a powder one...u will have to push it in vs brush it....make sense??
So I apply the creamy minty color all over the lids, nicely, evenly, keep it just above the crease by feathering it.
Next I rimmed the eyes, top and bottom by the lash line with a black khol (khol are more soft that normal pencil). You don't have to be too precise as the line will be smudged.
note:on the bottom lashes, keep the line more towards the outer corner of the eyes, half way through...
With a dark teal powder eyeshadow, I start working the outer corner of the eyes, make them darker and creating depth. I keep it half way through the eyes..
So that the light mint, showing through the dark teal, showing through the black...ect...ect...
and pleeeeeeeeease keep it below the crease of the eyes...
The tricks for a smoky eyes is the blending.. and color building.. apply your color progressively, stand back, look at your work then continue.
Quiet hard to explain actually!! I will draw next time!!!
Lea has the longest lashes ever..so curl those cuties! good coat of mascara! and few singles in the middle of the eye.
Et voila!

Malpais is a paradise, miles and miles of untouched beaches. The water is a bit rough to swim here but it is great for surfers!!
We shot 3 beautiful stories, that will come out in June in Marie Claire.

One of the fun part of my job is when I work with an actress that wants to have fun herself and is willing to let you do your job! ;-)
It is a collaboration between the stylist, the hairdresser, the make up artist and obviously the actrees/singer...
I have been really lucky to been able to work with a great team for the awards seasons.
Lea is very versatile and is willing to explore different looks..

...That my life is Glamorous..
Well, sometimes it is but mostly it isn't... Like right now.. 14 hours on a set and still trotting..
Left my home at 4:45 am, got fed a croissant and a coffee at 6am...water and a small pizza at 3 pm...
There is no food, no snacks no sodas no nothing and I am shooting clothes worth thousands of $$$$...
Something is wrong with not feeding the peeps u lock in a studio for over 15 hours and I am pissed off..
And, it's not like I can walk out and even buy myself something to eat or drink... I am in a middle of nothing...

Now, dont get me wrong, I love my job and I feel blessed that I can make a living from my "talent".
But damn it!!! Feed me!!!

When I saw the green dress, I thought the color was so stunning against Lea's skin. It was a strong color and a cleavage so the dress made a statement.
We decided to keep it clean..and bronzed, like a bronzed Goddess!!!!

Sorry guys and girls, well actually mostly girls...the all 8 of u! ;-)
I have been really busy..
The last time I blogged it was for the GG..
Since then we had the SAG'S, DGA and the Grammys!

We had such a good response for Lea's look for the Golden Globes that, I am not going to lie, there were a little bit of pressure to come up with an overall look as successfull.

BUT WE DID IT! WE ROCKED!

As you know I am just starting and your support is amazing.
Marta, the eyelashes are Shu Uemura, they called smoky layers..You can buy them at Upsacle dept store (bareys/Saks/Neiman) or in the Shu Uemura boutique (Costa Mesa).
They are quiet thick at the base and might be heavy on your eyes tough.
I would def cut the strip in equal pieces and apply them as such..easier on the eyes and more flexible, use a duo glue that u can buy at Walgreens or Savon, let the glue dry for 20 sec and get tacky before u apply the lashes... then fill the whole if any with a black khol pencil..really near the lash line..
dont make it a liner liner...;-) just make the transition between your lashes and the fake ones.

Finally got home after a great day!
Got Lea ready for the GG.
We kept it beautiful, flawless, young but still chic.
Her dress is Oscar De La Renta and it is so classic that we wanted to keep a youthful look.
Lea is a natural beauty and we wanted to keep her fresh, radiant.
Below are the products I used.
We went all out on the lashes, which look like a lot but with a tone down/natural make up, she can totally pull it off..
We were really happy..Miok did an amazing updo, none like u saw on the red carpet..the texture was young and confident!! like a tornado of a chignon!

Well. that my friends, was the question for a while...
I heard about it but thought it was just an expensive make up sponge.

Oh boy was I wrong..

Few month ago, I got gifted one with a bunch of make up I bought

I tried it and...CANT WORK WITHOUT IT!

It pushes the foundation in the right places without leaving streaks..

I apply concealer with it too.

Its effortless...really is..

I am actually cleaning 2 right now and that is effortless as well..with their own cleaner though..but thats ok.

Chanel SS 2010 collection

Spend few hours at the boutique, sipping on mint lemonade and playing with colors! what more does a girl want??
Did I mentioned the little "canapes" served...delicious!
Met some amazingly talented make up artist and was nice to finally put a face to a name...
I was specially excited about the new Lip Care (very hydrating) and the UV care SP30 (to protect your skin against pollution and sun exposure)

Now, the summer 2010 collection reminded me of a hot sexy 80's Miami day..
The colors are bright, fluorescent and poppy..
Use a bright lip on a tan naked skin!! love it!

Good thing that I was ahead of the game when I work with Lea few days ago..;-)

The Spring collection is all about highlighting/illuminating and the colors are neutral and earthy, the opposite of the summer collection but they very much compliment one another..
I love Particuliere Nails color, its a dark taupe color, the new black!

Yesterday I work with the gorgeous Lea Michele..
We went for a soft look, beautiful skin and a purple wash of color around the eyes.
A month ago or so , we did L'Uemo Vogue together..yes yes..! and we went for a similar look, Lea loved it then and asked me to reproduce it yesterday.
Her lashes are all hers...no fakky there!
